Ohming out a compressor

Set your multimeter to Ohms. Start by completely disconnecting the spindle motor from all power sources. Check each wire, including T1, T2, T3 and the ground wire. If the reading is infinite, your motor should be fine. If you get a zero reading or any continuity reading, you have either a motor problem or a cable problem..

I checked the compressor and the compressor was room temperature and I realized the compressor was not working. I checked the J15 connector at the mother board and at the connection going into the inverter board for the out going DC voltage and I was reading a fluctuating DC voltage from 4.2 to 5.6 , 4.5 to 5.4 .Google gives me ranges of between 9-11 and 10-20 ohms as being normal coil resistance, but I can't find a consensus. Looking up the contactor itself (Trane CTR02575, 30 amp 3 pole 24 VAC) did not yield an answer as to what the coil should read, either. I'm thinking 7.2 ohms is too low, probably a short from being a shitty made in China product ...

Did you know?

With a megger, you measure insulation testing on a regular basis and compare the readings, they can tell you if the motor windings are about to fail. A one time reading does not tell you much, you are looking for trends. Along with the megger, take amp readings, open circuit voltage, running voltage, and IR temp readings. For example, Copeland AE4-1303 states: “Copeland Scroll compressors incorporate internal low vacuum protection and will stop pumping (unload) when the pressure ratio exceeds approximately 10:1. There is an audible increase in sound when the scrolls start unloading.”. This internal low vacuum protection prevents the compressor …the compressor run and notice that the freeze is cold and make ice. run it for about 5 hours then turn off ofr one hour and run again. sommtimes you need to run compressor temporarily to save the fresh food. ohm out the comressor make sure it not shorted before running the compressor manually.

I think that ohming out the windings of the compressor, would tell you just as much about the compressors ability to start as would a momentary jolt of electricity. Checking and Replacing Fuses. The fuses are designed to blow before the entire wiring harness is damaged. If any of the electrical components do not operate, a fuse may have blown. If this happens, check and replace the fuses as necessary. Turn the engine switch off and turn off all electrical accessories. Open the fuse box cover. How to check a 3 phase motor with a multimeterHow to troubleshoot a 3 phase motor with a multimeter3 Phase motor testHow to check a 3 phase motor systemHow t...Before ohming out compressor . Start to run=highest resistance It's been many years since I have used this, but if I am wrong I'm sure there will be some people here happy to correct me. R to C = lowest reading. S to C = Highest reading. S to R = middle reading. In general the two lowa should add up to the high (approx.) Nope, you messed up eddy: R to C = lowest reading.

That said if it ohms out OK, all wire connections are good, voltage is not dropping below 197 under load, the capacitor is good, then try a start assist. ….

With the multimeter set to R x 1 scale (ohms), measure the resistance between the run and start wires; start and common wires; and run to common wires. There should be a measurable resistance through each set of wires.

Run Winding 243V ÷ 2.6Ω = 93.4A Start Winding 243V ÷ 4.2Ω = 57.85A Well, THAT makes no sense, so they stop using Ohm's law and settle for believing that electricity is magic and Ohm's law is broken. In actuality, Ohm's law does work; it's just that the loads we measure tend to vary and don't all behave in the same way. Inductive LoadsUse a multimeter or an ohmmeter to test the voltage of the electric motor. If there is no resistance or the resistance is uneven, the motor is likely faulty. Check the bearings to make sure they can spin freely. If they can’t, lubricate them. Look on the outside of the motor for other potential problems, like holes or smoke points.Aug 14, 2022 · Then they ohm out a residential compressor or other single-phase motor windings for the first time… They might read something like: Start to Common = 4.2 ohms Run to Common = 2.6 ohms Start to Run = 6.9 ohms. So, they measure their voltage, grab a calculator, and calculate. Run Winding 243V ÷ 2.6Ω = 93.4A Start Winding 243V ÷ 4.2Ω = 57.85A
